The History of the Big Guns
The History of the Big Guns Trail Ride hosted by Richard & Teresa Moore of Sulligent, Alabama.

How the showdown began was a visit to Baytown, Texas in January of 2005 to see the fastest horse in the South "Rowdy Rawhide's Rock", owned by Mr. & Mrs. Pete Riley. After a short visit and getting to see "Rock" in action, we were amazed and excited with his speed. After purchasing a filly from the Riley's we created a great friendship and invited the Riley's to visit us at our home in Alabama.

In June of 2005 Double "M" Farm (Richard & Teresa Moore) received a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Riley of  AAA Single footers, who are now residents of Cleveland, Texas, along with their speed racking stallion "Rowdy Rawhide's Rock".  During their visit we trail rode, visited with local horse owners & had a barn warming with lots of great food and friends. We had such a  great time riding in the rainy weather because of a hurricane, we decided to do it again next year.

In May of 2006, the Riley's returned to Double "M" Farm for their 2nd annual visit and trail ride. I advertised the return of  the Riley's returning to Double "M" Farm and of the fastest speed Racking stallion returning on www.doublemfarm.net , other speed racking owners showed up just to see how fast he was  & duel with the "Rock". Due to Decoration Sunday being held the same weekend as the visit from the Riley's at the little church where we normally park, I called the owner of a local campground located near Double "M" Farm to see if all the trail riders could use his facility to park. On Friday we  had 18 people show up at Double "M" Farm to trail ride and visit with the Riley's. On Saturday, we all met at the local campground and rode the Sam Murphy Management area. There was people from Mississippi, Tennessee, & the locals show up to race this amazing stallion. We all had a great time and at the end of the ride, the campground owner approached me and asked if I would like to have my "Fun with the Big Guns" trail ride next year at his facility. This was the 2ND annual trail ride hosted by Double "M" Farm.  I said yes and began to advertise on my website and in some other newsletter publications I'm affiliated with.

In 2007, the theme for my trail ride was "Big Guns" Life in the Fast Lane. I made graphics and had tee shirts printed, organized, and handled all the reservations for this upcoming event. Double "M" Farm purchased trophies and and ribbons to be given out to the winners of the classes that I scheduled. It was a great turn out and had participants from North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, &  Georgia.

Plans were set for Double "M" Farm's trail ride to continue in 2008 at this same facility. I continued marketing and advertising my trail ride again on Double M Farm. The facility where this event was to be held was having personal issues to deal with but Double M Farm kept taking reservations for this event. During the this time, the facilities was placed up for sale and we were not sure if this event was going to follow through or not.  A month before the date of the trail ride set, I was contacted by the owner of the said facilities to let me know I could still have the trail ride. Double "M" Farm purchased trophies and plaques for all classes, arranged for a photographer and also had a good success with this trail ride and showdown, with many more states and too many to name. We were very excited to see all these new fast horses show up for the trail ride and showdown.
After the trail ride was over, I had to make a decision as to where and when my next trail ride would be held, with the current facilities being up for sale and all the personal issues of the facility owner also going on.

In October of 2008, we visited Circle E Guest Ranch and campground of Belvidere, Tennessee. I found out quickly this was the place I was going to host my 5th annual Big Guns trail ride. On March 3, 2009 Double M Farm received a certified letter from the said facilities and their attorney stating for Double M Farm to cease and desist from using the name of the Big Guns trademark, which the facility owner had trademarked on February 19, 2009 after we had contacted him in October to let him know we would not be hosting our trail ride at his facilities due to all the drama and complaints we got that year from the trail ride. The dates were set  and all I had to do was advertise & market this event and Circle E handled the rest. The 2009 trail ride was bigger and better than ever with more horses attending from states that had never been at any of the trail rides before. I would like to thank everyone who attended this trail ride and showdown, you are what makes the ride a success and you will always be the reason for this trail ride to continue.

Double "M" Farm apologizes to each and every one that's been contacted by anyone associated with the campground facilities in Alabama and told or misled into believing this trail ride  was hosted or started by the said parties. This trail ride was started all in fun by Richard & Teresa Moore of Double "M" Farm and never with the intentions of reaping a profit. We do not receive any profits or gain from the campgrounds at which this event is held. It was started for fun and fellowship of other trail riders and will continue to be this way. If this trail ride ever becomes all about the money, it will be canceled

Thanks,
